HIBERNATION MODE, 2010

Dear Flutists

GBFA, as with many other organizations, has been severely impacted by the current economy and was for a time on the brink of extinction.

Instead of closing GBFA outright, numerous flute lovers and GBFA members have expressed an interest in exploring how the organization might be maintained in some form so that it could be more easily revived at a point in the future if/when the economy improves and more volunteer board members become available.

There is a way. "HIBERNATION Mode, 2010." Here's how it works…

All Individual GBFA Members in Good Standing for 08-09 are automatically "renewed" for 2010 at no cost. No renewal fees.

In lieu of dues from 0809 members, donations in any amount are requested to fund GBFA's HIBERNATION Mode status through 12/31/10. If you have any funds to assist us in maintaining GBFA's HIBERNATION Mode for 2010, then do please donate.

All those who were NOT 0809 Individual GBFA Members

(i.e. "new" members and those members renewing from lapsed memberships, i.e. prior to 08-09) who wish to "join" GBFA in its HIBERNATION Mode effort are asked to donate $10 or more for 2010.

Please print your email address on your check or correspondence and send with your completed 2010 Hibernation Member Info Form! (doc file) or (PDF file)!

Your Tax Deductible* donations will go toward covering the cost of:
*(to the extent allowable by law. Be sure to keep a record of your donation check.)

*keeping GBFA's PO BOX open for member and business communications
*keeping GBFA's website www.gbfa.org online and its URL listing valid
*continuing to keep the flute community as a whole informed of free flute events
*continuing to offer our GBFA members (whenever available) discount flute concert tickets and other reduced rate attendance fees for a variety of events (like master classes, conferences, etc.), CD purchase discounts.
*continuing to offer other member services (e.g. the opportunity to purchase mailing labels at reduced rates to members, passive and active events promotion for flute players, reduced rate advertising when applicable, etc.)
*very basic office supplies
*required business filings
*maintaining and updating the GBFA website as an info source, including the Flute Events Calendar, Important Announcements, and perhaps developing and launching new on-line ideas
*maintaining Member correspondence (primarily via email; some by post)
*administrative expenses to manage the above
We will continue to have access to donated use of office equipment (computer system, scanner, photocopier, fax, phone, printer, etc.) to assist maintaining HIBERNATION Mode.

IMPORTANT: GBFA will make no explicit or implied commitment to publish any Gazette issues or hold/host events during 2010 and/or when in HIBERNATION Mode.

During 2010 and/or when in HIBERNATION Mode GBFA will principally operate as an electronic online service and events promoter, supporting and promoting players and audiences of flute music. Therefore, all "members" and participants in GBFA should have email (or access to same) and internet service (or access to same) to realize the benefits of HIBERNATION Mode "membership" (anyone donating will receive a GBFA Passphrase which can be used for any reduced rate events admission prices or CD purchase discounts).

Donations should be made payable to GBFA and sent, along with your completed 2010 Hibernation Member Info Form! (doc file) or (PDF file), to:
