About GBFA

Greater Boston Flute Association was organized under Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 180 in 1992 as a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with the purpose of presenting cultural and educational opportunities for flutists and other interested community members. Past programs have included: Get Your Flute On!, a flute fair focused on participation in most of the diverse events presented, artists from around the country, our New England Artists Concert, a Jazz Cabaret featuring New York flutist Jamie Baum and much more; All The World's A Stage, a two-day flute fair highlighting the flute in performance settings, including performances by artists from Canada (Lise Daoust & Company), New York City (Jane Rigler), the MidWest (Lea Pearson), Pennsylvania (Lago Flute Quartet) and elsewhere, and featuring Linda Toote, Alicia DiDonato, Wendy Rolfe, Elizabeth Rowe, Jon Wion, Doug Worthen, and Elizabeth Ostling in a special New England Artists Concert; A Celebration of World Flutes, a two-day flute fair including Irish, Shakuhachi, jazz, electronic, South American, Klezmer and other flutists from throughout New England, and featuring a concert with Paul Edmund-Davies; an evening with Jean Pierre Rampal, where he played, reminisced and answered questions from the audience; master classes with Sir James Galway, Julius Baker, Brooks Dewitters-Smith and the late Samuel Baron; and much more.

GBFA serves professionals and amateurs players, as well as other flute enthusiasts. Our membership base extends all throughout New England, several other regions of the United States, and abroad. We publish

The Gazette

magazine quarterly ($10 per issue: always free to members) and host an annual New England Flute Fair (The NEFF), where we present master classes on orchestral auditions, reading sessions for flute choirs, exhibits from diverse flute makers, music suppliers, flute accessory retailers and much more. Another popular event is our Solo & Ensemble Day held each spring.

Our Mission Statement

Greater Boston Flute Association is committed to achieving, through diverse and innovative programming, collaboration among all who have passion for the flute. Our mission is to utilize the flute as a means of celebrating our humanity, and to present cultural and educational opportunities for flutists and other interested community members.
