Ona Jonaitytė

named GBFA 2007-2008 New Horizon’s Artist

This is only the second time in GBFA’s history that we have conferred the New Horizon’s Artist citation.


Ona Jonaityte is a student of Linda Toote at The Boston Conservatory where she is currently pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma. In 2004 she studied in France at The Lyon National Conservatory of Music and Dance with Prof. Philippe Bernold and Emmanuelle Reville. In 2006 Ona graduated from The Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater with a Masters in Performance and Teaching with Prof. Algirdas Vizgirda. Ona has won several competitions including 1st prize at the VIII J. Pakalnis National Young Performers Competition (Lithuania, 2000), The International Juodkrante. Flute Competition (Lithuania, 2005), YAMAHA Woodwind Competition (Lithuania, 2006) and 27th James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition (Boston, 2007). Ona also won 2nd prize together with the woodwind quintet of the Lithuanian Academy at the Klaipe.da International Competition (Lithuania, 2005) and 3rd prize at the XXIX Šc(ec(inik Young Performers Competition (Poland, 2000). She participated in the master classes of William Bennett, Gerard Bourgogne, Fernando Brandau, Barbara Giesler-Haase, John Heiss, Eduard Brunner and Klaus Thunemann. She has performed with The Vilnius University Chamber Music Ensemble, Musica Humana, Vilnius State Quartet, and The Lithuanian National Opera - Ballet Theater. Before coming to The United States Ona toured in France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Spain.

GBFA’s New Horizon’s Artist citation recognizes exceptional talent, poise, and drive, as well as technical achievement and the ability to communicate a devotion to flute music through performance.

We are quite pleased that Ona joins our prior New Horizon’s Artist Jessi Rosinski (2006-2007) in holding this honor.
